Prince Rock Dog Training &
Agility Club
Summer Newsletter 2013
Issue 2/2013
Hi everyone & welcome to the
second Newsletter issue this year. Since
our last communication, Agility & Flyball activities have resumed & we
have held our Annual General Meeting.
Thank you to all members who attended & participated in the AGM last month; specifically to those
who agreed to join the committee. I look
forward to working with you all.
With regards to Agility & Flyball
sessions, these take place at Gables Farm & we are hoping for better
weather this season as the practice takes place out of doors. Participants aged between 12/18 months
(depending on breed size) to 10 years are welcome, providing they are under
control & come when called. Please
see your class trainer for more information if you are interested.
Further on in this issue, you will see the club receives invitations
to put on obedience & agility demonstrations. I would like to actively encourage you join
our display team as we like to show dogs of all abilities/ages. The audience love seeing different size dogs
of varying ages & abilities too & it is a wonderful experience to hear
the positive comments about your own dog as they show off their skills.
Club members at Newton Downs last year
The club is committed to supporting various animal charities. Many thanks to those generous members who
purchased Easter Draw tickets as we raised £25.00 for Gables Farm Dogs’ & Cats’ Home. The prize winners were Carley Walker, Paul
Lockett, Liz Riley & Emma Riley. We
continue to raise funds for Woodside by the sale of refreshments during Club nights, thanks to the
generosity of Jenny Mcginnes as she pays for the supplies meaning that each 20p
you pay for your cuppa & biscuit goes straight to Woodside. Talking of Jenny, she has “oodles” of wool
& is looking for you help in putting it to good use. Intrigued? You will find more information
farther on in this issue. We are also
appealing for leads, harnesses, collars, plastic dog bowls, toys (new or used),
packets of dog food, chews plus flea & worming treatment for the Home & Abroad charity which helps
dogs in Sri Lanka. The children of the
families adopting these dogs love colouring books, pens, coloured pencils,
chalks & sweets. Please have a look to
see what you can spare & pop your contributions in the basket at the
entrance desk.
Finally, thank you to those of you affected by our recent
rearrangement of class times as your co-operation & understanding has been
a great help. It means we now hold six
separate obedience training sessions on Monday & Tuesday evenings in an
attempt to accommodate all those wishing to join the club & benefit from
the experience of our qualified trainers.
Can I please ask that if a class is in session when you arrive or leave,
that you are as quiet as possible to avoid disrupting fellow members after all
we all know from our own experience just how frustrating it can be when your
dog is distracted.
We will let you know regarding forthcoming events, including some
walks we are planning later on in the year. Judith

History of The Club
Did you know that our
club was founded many years ago by Lou Hannah?
The Club was formed in 1983 by
four people who met at a dog show. Lou
is the only one remaining. The first class was held in Plympton, and as years
went by, they had to find a bigger hall, moving 3 times before settling here at
St Matthias Church Hall. Lou has trained
5 of her own dogs: Scamp, Bracken, Bramble, Ivy and Holly, all of whom passed
Bronze, Silver and Gold Good Citizen Awards.
Bramble won the Flyball Cup each year until he was too old. Holly is her only rescue dog and was a bit of
a handful at first, but she is much better now!
Lou gained her City
& Guilds qualifications at Bicton College and has certificates with the British
Institute of Professional Dog Trainers, the Federation of Dog Trainers Canine
Behaviourists, Cynology, and the Institute of Pet Behaviour Consultants. She
assesses for Pets as Therapy and keeps up to date with courses, the last one
being Dog Law. She is a volunteer for Woodside Dogs and Cats home where she
meets potential new owners and ensures they know what they are letting
themselves in for! She has enjoyed her
many years with dogs and still maintains the best way to train a dog is:
PATIENCE, PRACTICE, and PRAISE.
Although Lou retired
from the club a few years ago, she still supports the club with Holly, and
steps in now and again, if a trainer is away.
Our Christmas Party would not be the same without Lou’s Dog cake!
Square Knitting !!
Do you knit? Jenny is collecting squares to make blankets
for Woodside and Gables cats and dogs homes.
If you want to contribute, the squares should be 8” x 8” approx, plain
stitch and 40 stitches. This does vary
according to tension.
Paws to Note……….
We need you!!!!
Please come to these events and show off your skills.
Put your name down on the forms on the table as you come
in the hall, all levels welcome. Fun for all!
